Sintomi e gradi di distorsione di caviglia

There are two types of ankle strains and sprains. Typically, the ankle is twisted inward (an inversion ankle sprain) or outward (an eversion ankle sprain).

Inversion sprains cause pain along the outside of the ankle and are the most common type. Pain along the inside of the ankle may represent more serious ligament or tendon injuries and may require evaluation by a doctor.

Ankle sprains are often classified into different grades depending on the severity of the sprain. These grades range from Grade 1 to Grade 3.

Grade 1: The ligaments have been stretched but have not yet torn. Symptoms include mild swelling, pain, and joint instability/stiffness, as well as trouble jumping and walking.

Grade 2: The ligaments have partially torn. Symptoms include difficulty walking, pain, bruising, significant swelling, and loss of motion in the ankle.

Grade 3: The ligaments will be completely torn. This severe sprain will cause severe pain, swelling, and loss of motion, bruising, as well as joint instability and pain with walking.

If a sprain or strain is not treated properly, it can cause long-term problems. If you are unable to bear weight after this type of injury, or if you experience significant swelling or deformity, you should seek treatment from a specialist. The Osteopath will rebalance the tissues, which will then need to be rehabilitated by the physiotherapist.
