On stage, small changes in facial muscle tone may disappear across the distance between performer and audience.
The camera is different.
A close-up magnifies extraordinarily subtle physical behaviors.
A slightly fixed mandible.
Persistent tension around the mouth.
Asymmetrical recruitment.
Reduced facial adaptability.
A neck that becomes visibly active before an emotionally demanding line.
These changes may be extremely small, but under a high-definition lens they can become part of the performance.
The issue is therefore not simply aesthetic.
Excessive muscular effort can influence the actress's presence.
When the body is constantly organizing itself around protection and control, spontaneity may become more difficult.
